The Watchung Hills Jr. Hockey Mites braved 27-degree temperatures to play their first outside game at Beacon Hill Country Club on Saturday.
The temperature might have been low, but spirits were high for the 7 am against Beacon Hill’s mite team.
Ben Carr played goalie while scorers Andrew Shanahan (Millington) and Ryland Flynn (Gillette) put in three goals between them, but the tough playing of the Warriors wasn’t quite enough. The team lost 5-3.

Squirts Go 0-2 on the Weekend
The Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Squirts had a tough weekend against West Morris White on Saturday and West Morris Blue on Sunday. The young Warriors started strong on Sunday, but couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead and eventually fell to the Wolfpack 5-3. Goals were made by Lucas Finklestein (Warren) and Jake Campos (Gillette). Kayden Thursfield-Ritchie was in net.
Saturday’s game for the squirts was tougher for the team. Missing a number of key players, the Warriors fell 6-1. The team plays again next weekend.

PeeWees Defeat Roxbury
The Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors PeeWee team faced tough competition against Roxbury and came out the clear winner with a final score of 12-5.
A short bench couldn’t slow the Warriors who came in strong in the first period to answer Roxbury with two goals, scored by Michael Kurtas (Basking Ridge), who scored two in the first, and Michael Galiani (Warren). Roxbury held strong to finish the first period 4-3 Roxbury. But the Warriors came in hard in the second period to score a total of 9 goals by Galiani, Kurtas, Ben McDonald (Warren), Sean Gennero (Green Brook), and David Fruda (Green Brook).
Bantams Go 2-0 on the Weekend
Both the Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Bantam Black and Gold teams won the weekend against Wayne and Roxbury respectively.
