The 2020-21 season was different for everyone, but we were thrilled to get in a full season of games and practices.

We are even more excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2021-22 season. We are now accepting registration for Mites-Bantams and are actively seeking new players at all levels.

The season typically starts with practices in September/October and games in October and runs through February.

Thank you to everyone who has safely joined us this season. The board and club are dedicated to providing a safe, healthy and fun environment for all of our kids. As you may know, we have a number of protocols in place to mitigate and limit potential exposure for our children. This includes but is not limited to gearing up prior to arrival, masking off the ice, social distancing and maintaining a minimum ratio of players and coaches at each practice. 

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise we would like to clarify our quarantine policy for the Junior Warriors. We realize it can be confusing, as many teams are responsible for developing their own COVID-19 protocols. Please note this policy only applies to the Junior Warriors program, and does not reflect the exclusive policies of a specific rink or USA Hockey. The policy has been developed based on recommendations from the CDC and the policies in place with local schools. Do not assume this policy applies to other programs your child may be involved in. 

If a team member or coach has tested positive for COVID-19 and the individual DID participate in a practice, scrimmage or event during the infectious period (48 hours prior to onset of first symptom or confirmation of illness) the entire team willhave to quarantine for 14 days. It is the responsibility of you as the parent to notify your school regarding the potential exposure. 

If a team member or coach has tested positive for COVID-19 and the individual DID NOT participate in a practice, scrimmage or event during the infectious period (48 hours prior to onset of first symptom or confirmation of illness) the team member or coach must be quarantined for 14 days. If symptoms persist beyond 14 days, you may not return to play until you are medically cleared by your physician. 

If a team member or coach is exposed to a family member with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID the team member or coach must be quarantined for 14 days from the onset of the exposure. No test is required to return to play after the quarantine period has ended.

If a team member or coach is exposed to a community member  (i.e. exposure through school, house of worship, private event, etc.) with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID the team member or coach must be quarantined for 14 days from the onset of the exposure. No test is required to return to play after the quarantine period has ended.  

If your child has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, or has been exposed to someone with a suspected or confirmed case, please contact your coach and team manager as soon as possible.

Covid Procedures

Please note, no sooner than 8-hours before any game players must fill out the Covid form on TeamSnap. No player will be admitted to the rink without completing form.

No parents are allowed in the rink. All players must home dress except skates & helmets. Goalies can put on pads in rink. 

The Warriors will livestream all games to parents to watch.

Players and coaches may enter rink 15 mins prior to event (wearing masks). Players / coaches must exit rink within 10 min of end of event (wearing masks).

No sharing of water bottles. All water bottles must be clearly labeled with the player’s name. 

We can’t be more excited with the news from Gov. Murphy that hockey has returned to NJ.

The Watchung Hill Jr. Warriors Hockey Club is now taking registrations for the 2020-2021 season. If you haven’t yet registered now is the time to confirm your spot on a team. Placement is on a first-come, first-serve basis and teams are filling up.

In order to consider your registration completer we will need your full fee (less deposit if you paid one), Warriors waiver, COVID Waiver, registration form and USA Hockey number. All materials can be found on our registration page.

If you already submitted the forms for this year we do not need them again. We simply need your remaining fee.

Fees are: 

Deposit (to be deducted from final registration if paid) $200

• Full Registration (games and practices) $1,350
• Games Only Package  $750  
• Player Development Program (practices only) $750

We are still accepting new registrations and players for all teams except PeeWee. If you haven’t yet registered or know of anyone interested please do spread the word. Now is the time since games will be starting soon.

We are thrilled to announce the NJ Gov. Murphy has opened up NJ to hockey again. We are ready to play.

Please note that the 2020-2021 season will be a little different. The important thing is that our kids get to play the game they love.

As per state guidelines, NO parents are allowed in the rink for games or practices. No bags are allowed in the rink. All skaters/players should come fully dressed with the exception of skates. Coaches and older players will help tie skates once in the rink. Please note, goalies only will be allowed to dress in the rink. 

We are asking for 3 parent volunteers to help tie skates at practices and come in the rink again when practice is over to untie and supervise. Only parents with USA Hockey SafeSport certification will be allowed inside. If you are interested you can submit your certification to Alex Gallant. Certification can be obtained here: https://www.usahockey.com 

We are thrilled to announce that the Warriors will be continuing with a 2020-2021 Season.

We just heard from the MCYHL and they are making plans for the league. We don’t have full details yet, they tend to come last minute, but we’ve been told there might be ice time starting as early as September, which means we’re looking to build our teams quickly.

Given the current situation, we are taking deposits now to hold your place for the season. As things unfold we’ll reach out about payment for the rest of the season which, as you can see from the forms, pricing hasn’t changed from last year.

The deposit will allow us to pay MCYHL for our spot in the league and hold ice time for practices. We plan to practice at Rock Ice in Dunellen again this year.

In addition to a $200 deposit we will need your registration form, waiver and a USA Hockey number. The registration and waiver are attached and the hockey number can be attained through the USA Hockey website. If we already have a waiver for pre-season we won’t need another, we’ll just need your deposit and notification of whether you’re signing up for full or games only.

Practices for preseason (and likely the spot we’ll hold for regular season) are Mondays from 6:45-7:45pm. Preseason starts on September 14. 

Season Practice TimesAt the end of the season last year the board had discussed splitting our practices by age which means we will be looking to book a second ice time immediately before or after the one we currently have. This will give the coaches an opportunity to have more space for the kids. The earlier you register the better chance we have of booking those slots.

Guidelines

Covid restrictions currently allow for only 30 on the ice at a time (including coaches). Kids will dress at home and put their skates on in the rink. Coaches will help tie skates as needed.

All players and coaches will wear a mask when entering the rink and anytime they are off the ice. Masks can come off when on the ice. 

Only one parent per player is allowed to attend games and in the rink at any given time. We haven’t heard what the rinks require for practices yet. Some don’t allow any parents in. We’ll pass along that information as we get it from the rink.

Neck Guards

Please note: The Warriors requires neck guards for all our players. This will be enforced so please make sure your player has a guard for games and practices.

Support the Warriors

Given the current situation, we don’t have the ability to do the same sort of marketing we’ve done in the past so we’re looking to our families for help. Please forward on this information to anyone you think might be interested in joining and supporting our program.

We are also looking for coaches, website and publicity experts, and, always, more players.

Last year all of our teams went to playoffs with our Bantams taking home the championship and our Mighty Mites competing against travel teams in the Protec Shamrock Showdown and taking home the first-place trophy against the Ducks home team (we’re pretty proud of that). 

This year we graduated 15 Warriors, 12 of whom are moving up to play at Watchung Hills HS, others going elsewhere. We’re so excited to watch them continue to play even after they’ve aged out of our program.

The first-ever Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Hockey team to compete in a tournament with travel hockey teams, our Mites, ages 4-8, played with a determination the travel teams didn’t see coming.

The Shamrock Showdown, held at Protec Ponds Ice Center and hosted by the Protec Ducks, held their annual Shamrock Showdown this past weekend. The Warriors Mites competed against Bayonne, Brick, and two different Ducks to take the title.

In the first game, the Warriors faced off against a tough Bayonne team. Tied 1-1 through the first half it looked to be a nail-biter, but our Warriors played strong and finished with a 5-2 win. Their second game against Brick was decidedly uneven, with the Warriors winning 16-3 and leaving them with a 2-0 record for the tournament overall.

Sunday was a big day for the Warriors with victories against both the Rangers and a Ducks B team. With a 4-0 tournament record, the Warriors were placed firmly into the championship game.

Facing a tough Ducks team, also undefeated in the tournament, the Warriors went in strong, scoring five unanswered goals early in the game. The Ducks came back hard in the 2nd half to score three, closing up the gap to 5-3 Warriors. But our Warriors relied on the skills they played with all season–passing, positioning, and solid teamwork–to finish the game with a 9-5 win over the Ducks, taking home the very first tournament championship the Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors have ever won.

Congratulations to the Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Hockey Club Bantam teams. Both Gold and Black took home their division championship trophies over the weekend.

Bantam Black Defeats Roxbury

The Watchung Hills Jr Warriors Bantam Black team faced a tough opponent in Roxbury. The end of the second period ended in a 3-3 tie with Daniel Adams (Bedminster), Ryan Lamberson (Bridgewater), Brady Sifert (Warren) all putting one in the net. In the third, Jacob Fullman (Millington) put in the fourth and what would be the game-winning goal.

Ryan Lamberson (Bridgewater) scored the fifth goal late in the third period. Roxbury pulled the goalie in an effort to tie the game and Julian Jogelkar (Warren) put the 6th goal in for the Warriors.

Peewee Sarah Martin (Metuchen) held strong in net.

Bantam Gold Rolls Over Randolph

Bantam Gold faced Randolph Friday night in what was expected to be a tough game. The Warriors brought their A-game and by the end of the first period were ahead 6-0. With a final game score of 16-3, the Warriors claimed the MCYHL division championship for a second year in a row.

The Bantam Gold Warriors first won the division championship as mites in 2014. All of the team will be graduating out of the Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors this year with many moving on to Watchung Hills Regional High School.

Both the Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Hockey Bantam Black and Bantam Gold teams celebrated Friday night in strong wins that will take them to the finals in the MCYHL playoffs.

Bantam Gold

Bantam Gold secured their spot first in a game against Hanover. The game started slow with only one unassisted goal in the first period by Warriors Daniel Gallant (Stirling). Hanover waited until the second period to answer and while it looked to be a close game, Warriors leveled-up with two of their own goals in the second period, both by Alex Rozak (Warren) to take a 3-1 lead over Hanover. That didn’t slow the Warriors down who went on in the third to score three more goals two by Pete DaSilva (Greenbrook), and another by Gallant. Warriors Gold finished 6-1. They will play Randolph for the league championship Friday night at 9pm at Mennen Arena in Morristown.

Bantam Black

Bantam Black went 0-0 in the first period in what looked to be a tough match-up against Wayne. The Warriors however came on strong in the second period with goals by Jacob Fullman (Millington), and two by Arkin Navin (Watchung) to make it a 3-0 game, Warriors. Hanover came back in the third to score one goal, but were no match for the Warriors who scored four more in the third. Goals by Evzen Tormasi (Martinsville), Lucas Rowman (Bridgewater), another by Navin, and Julian Joglekar (Warren). The Warriors Bantam Black team will go on to play Rockaway Sunday morning at 7am.

Mites Dominate in Jamboree

The mites played in the MCYHL Mite Jamboree and dominated over teams from Beacon Hill, West Morris, Rockaway and Roxbury.

PeeWees and Squirts Fall

Watchung Hills Jr. Warriors Hockey Peewee and Squirt teams both fell in the first round of playoffs. Peewees to Roxbury and Squirts to Denville. Both teams had strong developmental seasons and expect to come back strong in the 2020-2021 season.
